Basement Stories is a magazine run by a couple of die hard science fiction and fantasy stories. We don't have a lot of money. Actually, we don't really have any money at all. But despite our lack of funds, we are absolutely committed to paying our authors at a decent rate, and to provide great free online stories, poems, and reviews for you, the reader. One of our eventual goals is to pay our authors professional rates.
That's where you come in. Many small press magazines rely on the generosity of their readers to pay for upkeep of their websites, author payments, and print publications. Without these wonderful fans, many online magazines with great content wouldn't exist - Escape Pod, Fantasy Magazine, Drabblecast, Strange Horizons, and Clarkesworld, to name a few.
There are now several different ways that you can help Basement Stories. We have an Amazon affiliate site here,and also on the page below, which houses a collection of speculative fiction books we think are pretty great. If you buy any book on that page, or anything else on Amazon after clicking on one of the links in that bookstore, we get a cut of the profits, which is awesome for us. You can also, if you're a particularly awesome person, donate money straight to us. A donation of only five or ten dollars makes a big difference for us, in terms of being able to pay everybody and keep our website running
And, really, that's all our money goes to - most of your donations go directly towards paying our authors. The rest goes towards paying for hosting for our website, and for our domain name, possibly for the occasional book of stamps. We're not really very exciting, money-wise.
